The environment came out very well, I learned not what to do in the future, and how to make better use of UV space, and I really want to try to not have any visible seams in the future.

2011 already and almost through January. Have been working on J.A.C.C alot, but not nearly enough, can't and don't really want to post much about the Game yet, but here is a screen cap of a main character and a drawing I did today in Flash to loosen up a bit and shift my thinking from GAME to fun. It's nice to give your brain a break, so I drew Cathelion from Corrupted Lore, in a moment in Smoker history, where anyone who smokes has been, the "dreaded Forgot the Lighter moment", where everyone gets pissed at you.

(not in this order) The New Finalized Simplified JACC (boy that sounds weird)design for Red. I blocked out the Color and arranged the composition. This is to be painted by my Background Artist Sal. He's actually done a wonderful job on it but I am not posting official art just yet. 3D J.A.C.C Turn Arounds pt 1

Need to use this, and paint my turnarounds over the top of it. Did this is Zbrush using Zsketch. Took about 4.5 hours over the course of 3 days. Learning to control Zspheres and the variations of Zspheres is a strange thing.

I think this is a great idea and a great way to get prototype characters up in 3d fast so you can see proportion or to make a turnaround if you are on a crazy fast deadline. It's also very convenient and an excellent exercise in Zbrush. I hope that some day I can thank the Brains over at Pixologic by doing something for them.

Goku Arrives at last!

Goku arrives on the Planet Namek destined to stop Frieza but is confronted by Recoome, one of Frieza's henchmen! He also saves his allies whom Recoome has been Fighting with; Son Gohan, Goku's young son and Goku's best friend Kurinrin. Can Goku stand up to Recomme as easily as he says?

This took an Hour. There are about 15 layers. Drew it in Flash for Fun. Wasn't trying to be clean in my line work at all just having fun.

I saw this photo of a buddy of mine a while back on The Facebook. He was wearing his Riding gear and posing all joe-cool in front of a mountain backdrop. I thought it would be hilarious if he had a Katana on his back. So tonight, I see it again, and I was feeling like messing with photoshop but not really doing anything for any of my projects at all, so I photoshopped it up and I made him look like Blade from Marvel Comics....hahaha! Came out pretty cool actually and only took about 20 min.

The Space Elevator

This is a Space Elevator. It takes Astronauts and Scientists from the Surface of a Planet into Orbit about 100km straight up from sea level. The Space Elevator is the Location of the first level in J.A.C.C and the launch pad for the teams trip to that moon in the distance. Will this be in the game just like this? Not sure, but I am happy with it. It was experimental. Tried some white paint pens and sharpies to get some white over the black. A technique I picked up from watching Yildiray Cinar draw. Medium is Crayola Markers and White Out Correction pen and a little bit of black acrylic paint. Then I took it into Photoshop and adjusted the levels and added a bit of atmospheric haze that I was unable to achieve with the markers. Time to completion roughly 7hrs. I'm not happy with it but I learned a lot.

Mountains Color Study

Did this in about 1.5 hrs for fun, for learning and to better understand color. These are the Motora Mountains in New Zealand. Used a few different brushes and then I applied a water color filter to the top of it. It looks better smaller if you ask me. I learned that I need to paint more from this exercise. :)

Since Bruce Jack is now J.A.C.C until further notice i'm designing the new versions of the characters to be a bit edgier than I had originally intended. I kept the cartoon proportions while trying to convey utmost bad-assery at the same time. This would be Player 1 - Red Hero and main Protagonist. This is just the first of many to come. This game is now under production apparently!

I tried very hard to capture the look and feel of the Naruto Manga for this one. As this commission was done for a woman whos son absolutely loves Nartuo. I was afraid of drawing Gara of the Sand Village and selling it though so I told her that I would just make her boy the character instead! They loved it and put it above his bed. :) It was really cool.

The Dragon Slayer

Black and White Pencil and Ink. Done for an Old Friend. Studied a lot of 16th and 17th century Samurai Art. I drew two other pieces before this one, that I spent hours on and totally scrapped! Then while looking at samurai I saw one standing in a cloud of smoke having just vanquised an oriental Dog Lion Creature of Myth. Then it dawned on me. I love Dragons and Knights, let's do a Japanese inspired Dragon Slayer! So here it is! I hope the Japanese Master Artists whom so inspired me would be proud of my work. The panels in the BG are left empty purposely. I noticed upon this pieces conception that people tended to fill in those blank squares with whatever they wanted them to be. A most interesting thing! Windows, Doors, Scrolls, Pictures, Curtains. I never could have predicted such a thing to transpire! :)

They needed help story boarding, I draw pretty fast, so I helped out. These were never used though. It was actually kind of challenging because this is not the type of subject matter I tend to draw on a day to day basis. :) I turned this into an animatic as well. Well I couldn't sleep when I got home last evening and I really wanted to paint something. I'd been listening to some Ambient Music on Itunes Radio and I found this station called Birdsong. I instantly wanted to do a landscape of some sorts and really wanted to paint trees and water because I want to practice reflections and leaves. Needless to say this piece took on a life of it's own. I added the yellow flowers because I'd recently met someone who works with the yellow flower Brassica napus which is used to make Canola Oil. Boy was it a good choice for some added color. ;)

20+Hours of ZBrush right here. I've been learning a ton about this program and I am really loving it. It's so cool to see these visions realized in 3D glory. I volunteered to do this painting for the Hostess in an attempt for her to use the money for the charity. She ended up being just shy of the $1,000.00 goal. I had hoped the painting would go for at least $100.00. I didn't get to see where it went or who got it however, my ride left before the raffle! I will find out and post a follow up.

Here are photos of the stages the painting went through during it's production. I have 5 days to do it, and spent roughly 17 hours from concept to finished. From Thumbnail to canvas. A great learning experience! Much needed painting practice, and a worthy, strong meaning behind the art.

Did this piece on a whim. Felt like working with a complimentary color palette, trying to exude the deep power that lies within Xev as a Conjurer, while hinting at the Necromatic color of the dead, Green. Xev is a character that could be underestimated because of his physical size, and odd looking features, but he can easily overwhelm most adversaries with his, explosive, magical abilities.

Here is some recent work I have done with Adobe Flash and my Wacom. All of it is for school.

This ridiculous line up of criminals to Art, includes some of the fastest characters I've ever drawn in Flash. They have no personality, no conceptualization, no ...real care or love from ME as the creator at all. I just wanted to get them done as fast as possible so I could work on a much larger and more rewarding painting.

Thus I give you the Stupidest characters I have ever created! =D Ta-Da!

A Can Opener.

So, at Art school, when you are learning the Art of Animation, there is an assignment most students have. It's usually referred to as the Mr.Sack assignment. The student is to take a flour sack,an inanimate object , and give it life. Ala, every character in Beauty and the Beast.

Took the infamous Mr. Sack assignment. Made him have a very updated Starbucks Coffee design. Very angular, as I knew everyone in class would either draw, classic Mr.Sack, or some other rounded version that looks more like a Turkey with nubbin feet.

Traveling Merchant 2

I received suggestions that said the previous version of this character was hard to read. So I removed a lot of detail work. This character is to be painted anyway, so it's not much of a loss. I have to keep in mind that not everyone who views my work will perceive my work as I do. Because it looks readable to me, does not mean it's the same to others.

I now focused more on Silhouette, and over outline. I removed the BG, and much folding in the clothes and the patterns on the clothing have been refined. I removed the second layer of backpack as well, because it obscured the silhouette of his head. What do you think? Were their suggestions worth while? Everyone concurred that it was a better piece. I disagree, as this is not my original conception. Is simpler always better? Was their so much detail that it was honestly SO difficult as to be able to tell as to what was happening in the characters face?

We will never know. Judge for yourself.

Drew this up. It's a cat like Traveling Merchant. He is designed as a secondary character for Corrupted Lore. This would be the guy that has all the potions and scrolls and trinkets and powders and hallucinogenic things you'd ever need. His patters are that of my old Silver tabby Sebastien.

Here they are. Fingolfin, Cathelion and Xev. It feels great to know what these fools look like. Scripts are 50% done and preproduction BG design and Prop design can commence!

Marrum the Dogre finally has a face. The more aggressive Spiked version is what he may look like after he is taken over by a demon.

This is a sketch I did while trying to conceptualize a demi-God type character in our story. However recent critiques have lead me to see him more as a King, or royalty. Which would make the reaction by Fingolfin and Cathelion in the BG a bit over exaggerated.

Did these Characters for an Animation class. They need to be sleek and streamlined, so that's what I tried to do. The colors on Lysethia could be re done in my own opinion, but that's partly due because I didn't test my marker to see if it was out before I put a mark down =(. Hence her pants are an odd color. They're all heroes, the Villain will come later, been drawing for 5 hours and my tooshy hurts. Goin for a run!

Started this in photoshop last night about 1am. Worked on it until 4am. I messed with the composition a bit and opted for a triangular or diagonal composition. Simple perspective and unique poses displaying each character at a point in time where they are totally relaxed and carefree. A rarity in the dangerous world of Corrupted: Lore.

Description) Demitri in foreground rests on a rock. Fingolfin, Cathelion and Xev rest amongst the banks of a small, calm river.They take time to enjoy a smoke, read up on some spells and have a laugh. Argomedies perches on Cathelion's foot but Cath jerks suddenly startling the normally quiet and reserved owl companion of the Blue Elf Fingolfin.

Spent an estimated 7 hours on this. Painted my friend Heather for her bday.It was indeed a learning experience and I got to experience a great deal of fun with some new brushes. Done in CS2 with a Wacom. Needless to say she loved it and I think a friend of her's wants me to go to her BDay just so she can have one too...that's funny.

This Painting has also earned me two commissioned pieces that are in negotiations.

Low and behold. After much turmoil of how to design a character based on myself and many other heroes of yore, it was decided that he should just, look like an interpretation of me. After all, who doesn't want to be a hero? Might as well cartoon myself into my own story right? Hell Yeah! So Cathelion has gone through many changes. He no longer has pants tucked into boots. He no longer has a Long Bow as his main weapon, and he doesn't wear a cloak all of the time. His bow is of Turkish Inspiration, as is his quiver. He bears the tattoo of the serpent on his chest and wears his shirt tucked into his shorts. He has two arm bands, a pair of gloves, and one fore arm guard to protect him from the bow string upon release. Inside his Equipment case on his back is his short sword, which is not depicted and his long bow and long arrows, bow balance,tripod, and trap kits. His long bow is like an English Long bow but his is modified and exaggerated used used for sniping and extreme long range combat.

I am not totally happy with his foot wear. As I don't know if he should wear sandals or shoes, or moccasins.

The Incredible Hulk

Loved the new flick, wanted to paint Hulk. Used lots of different brushes and colors to achieve many textures. Over 20 layers in this piece, took me 16 hours 23 minuets, over a weeks period of time.

This is all concept artwork for an animated Flash Cartoon and Graphic Novel I have conceptualized with two friends. Fellow Strategic Pen Wrangler
(Co-Creator/Artist/Writer) , Salvador Carrasco, and Intellectually Creative Story and Dialogue Consultant (Co-Creator/Writer), Javan Azevedo.

These characters have been floating around for over a year and have just recently started to see the light of day. They got their start at the kitchen table, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and we've taken them to new degrees of look and persona, as we found out, we wanted them to not look like Dungeons and Dragons, or Lord of the Rings, or Disney type characters. The story is for a Mature Adult Fantasy/Sci audience. You could compare our subject matter to that of Heavy Metal.

Just so you know a little bit about the heroes, Cathelion is a Half Elf Ranger. His Specialty is his military background, Keen half elven senses, his smart mouth, and his bow. He's a Maniac with a death wish as well, as he's been known to do some very Brave, and stupid things.

Fingolfin is a very tall slender High Elf, whom is a member of Parliment from where he is from. He is a learning Wizard, having only taken the study of Magic seriously some 150years ago, short in Elf Years. He is skilled in Sword combat as well as the use of the staff. He's been known to fight with both weapons at once in conjunction with his elemental powers. He has a familiar as well. Argomedes the Owl.

Xev is the thin, dark skinned Elf...yeah the Dark Elf. He's short, very smart, inclined to help those in need but has a devious side in which you don't want to cross. He is skilled in Sorcery and Necromancy. One of his arms is corrupted from using necromancy so much. His weapons of choice are his personal short blade, and a magic staff. Xev also employs a black raven creature named Dimitri.

GAHHHH!!! STAR WARS!! OH MY GOD!!

Ok, I calmed down...=) . I'm a huge fan of people over reacting to stuff. Makes me laugh everytime. Wha kinda geek doesn't love Star Wars though. Even if the new ones kinda sucked, Jedi are still way cool. I did these in 2006 but I find them worthy of showing. Its a sequence of story boards depicting my good friend Javan as Jedi Master, Ka Arrid. The shots take place after Return of the Jedi.

Surrounded by Storm Troopers, the keen Jedi Master ignites his glistening blue weapon of the Force, and stands at the ready, looking about at his opponents.

Unfortunately after that panel he uses an immense Force Push, to wave his enemies aside like flies, but that panel has gone missing. I will either have to re-do it or find it in the bowles of a hard drive somewhere. The original is in one of many sketchbooks.

Top: Jedi stands in a circle of dust, the ground warped by his destructive radial Force Push.

Mid: Over head, from the East, Tie Bombers cruise into the shot.

Bottom: The Jedi Master flees as quickly as he can, the bombers close in. He reaches for his second lightsaber.

The bombers waste no time in their attempts to kill the Jedi master. Their bombs explode with deadly force, killing an surviving Storm Troopers. Ka Arrid ignites his second blue lightsaber.

He pauses and leaps into the air, hoping to catch the bombers as they press on, flying directly over him. With the Aid of the Force, he leaps into the air at super speed, and slices clean through the middle of one of the Tie Bombers.

Background Dump!

This is a black and white inkwash background I did after studying about Noir. Noir is the french word for black, if you didn't know. The goal was to use black and white and various greys to decpict drama, high contrast light and shadow, and still keep the park feeling inviting.

The background here to the right was done all in Flash 8. It was done before the one above. The goal was to create high drama and very stark high contrast lighting. This was the background to a Zombie Shooter game that Mike and I were creating to put on the web. It never got off the ground.

And at last this background, which I did inbetween the previous two pieces was more of a test background. I wanted to see what I could do with noir and ink, this was mostly sharpie and brush with black india ink. I wasn't sure where I was taking this or of a definite place or time in which this city was.

This BG was done in pencil first and then in marker. It was done in 2007. It came out decent, but you can see the improvement I think. How timid I was with the blacks....it trips me out.

The courage of a Dragon Slayer

Do you know what kind of courage a man must have to challenge a dragon in combat? The dragon I drew here is small compared to greater, older wyrms, but none the less, he is a fierce creature. This dragon is in a sense the Ice Dragon from previous pieces, however I ended up tweaking design. I shortened the neck and made him more muscular. I liked the long snake like appearance but for the sake of feroicty I wanted him to be more squat. I pictured a Lion/Komodo Dragon/Elk Combo.

I chose this composition after I had done a few thumbnails and one composition sketch, I did this sketch and with a few opinions, I took it into Flash. The goal here was T-Shirt Material! I had to use 8 colors, and make it as dramatic as possible. I didn't want it to look like someone elses art or try to mimic a T-shirt style, I just wanted it to be my dragon, take it or leave it. People like originality, so I figure if I can make it as much me as possible the better. HAHA, that sounds funny, as much me as possible. Other artists know what I am talking about. Letting to many influences effect the way you produce can be bad for your health.

Here is the rough artwork, well some of it. This was exported into a jpeg, just as I had finished the Samurai. I lost the original digital Art work however during my last reformat. (thanks Vista).

This was the first Shirt design that I felt worked. I had to be careful choosing the color of the shirt as well, some of the colors and patterens I used in this design did not look good on all colors. I need to experiment and see which colors look good together before I design my next shirt. I know there's no way to get a design to look good on every color though, it's just not possible....or is it? ;)

Before I forget, the Samurai was based on a character my friend Marcus created. He was a noble, yet sarcastic Samurai Swordsman named Akita. His favorite color was always red and it had such a strong contrast with the dragon, that I felt that this was the only way to do it. I drew the samurai twice and with this design, I felt I really hit the character on the nose. The only thing that I really feel needs to be changed is the removal of the word Courage. This shirt design actually got declined because of unecessary text. Which I expected, I had a few trusted opinions that said the exact same thing to me before I submitted, but I wanted to just submit and see what kind of things might happen. LOL. The image should convey courage without having to tell you.

The Ice Dragon awakens!

HARK! Sound the bells, ralley the men, the beast has risen!

I did this for school, it was a final for Color theory. We were to use a color palatte consisting of 12 colors and work from there with various hues and shades. I had wanted this to be a companion piece to the one below of the dragon in the cave. The whole idea was inspired by the emergence of Smaug from Erebor the Lonely Mountain in Tolkien's The Hobbit.

This was done all in PSCS2 and I used no filters. The three main colors, Grey, Black and Blue are my favorite colors. The dragon was composed in such a way as to convey power in a threatening manor. His inners glow bright golden yellow. I believe that all dragons have the ability to breathe fire, no matter what color. Kinda like all humans can run, walk, and jump, dragons breath fire.

Magic Door

Another Blue themed piece done for school. These past three pieces were so alike they could almost be companion pieces. This piece , the goal was transparency. The background is all PSCS3, while the door is made in Flash. I tried to blend the mediums to the point so that it was indistinguishable. Some see this and think that the door is transparent, but it's just celver use of color, one of my first successful uses of the technique.

The door and scene was inspired by Super Mario Bros. 2. In that game Mario could find potions of bubbling orange liquid. When he smashed them on the ground, a magic red door would appear. Upon entrance, he would be transported into a counter world, an exact copy of the place he was just in except it was night time ALWAYS, and the colors were very psychadelic and florescent.

Cave of the Ice Dragon

Now unfortunately this piece is going to stay fairly small and low rez until I can upload another. I recently did a system reformat (thanks windows vista) so I have to wait for Mike to copy all my saved files onto the network ( about 4 hours ).

Anyway, this was done mostly in Flash. I was trying to frame the background with the foreground, while still keeping the foreground interesting and simple. The dragon was inspired by the dragon from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. The dragon as well as the mist were both painted in PSCS2. The lighting effects were done in flash however.

Well now! The first post. This is definitely a great day in history. I always wanted to make my mark on the world. To do something, anything, that leaves such a scar in time.So that any one person from the point of the creations birth, forward, can go and visit that person's legacy when ever they wish. That is really cool. That's what I want this blog to be. I've had it prepared for over two weeks and am just now getting to posting something. Kinda sad, but I just wasn't ready to post.

Time and mental attitude have caused me to change that however.

I will now begin to share words and images from within me to you, for as long as I choose to keep this thing updated. I am not asking you to look at or read anything, I am not forcing you to either. You are here by choice, and for that I thank you. You know, I've been hoping this blog will subconsciously force me to draw more. Having it around and ready, at such a convienant price ( free =) ) it's hard to resist the temptation to share artwork and stories with you fellow humans. I also hope that I may use this blog to share thoughts and show employers how I work, think and develope concepts into final works. I am going to share paintings, character, background and prop design, storyboards, 3D Models, Flash and Illustrator work. I also intend to post my traditional works as well.
